GrayCat Markdown is a local and iCloud document writing tool. It does not require a GrayCat account, does not include advertising or tracking SDKs, and does not upload your documents to a developer-operated server. The optional AI writing assistant can run on device when supported. If you choose cloud AI, selected text is sent directly from your device to the third-party AI provider that you configure with your own API key.
Markdown documents, image assets, and related files are stored in the local folder or iCloud Documents location selected by you. When iCloud Documents sync is enabled, files sync through your own Apple iCloud account. The developer cannot access your iCloud document contents.
The AI writing assistant is optional and works on text you actively select in the Markdown editor. It is a writing and editing helper, not an open-ended chatbot, image generator, or autonomous agent.
When supported by your device and operating system, selected text may be processed locally using Apple on-device models. On-device AI does not send selected text to a cloud AI provider.
You may configure a third-party AI provider, model, HTTPS endpoint, and your own API key. Cloud AI runs only after you select text and explicitly start an AI action.

The app does not automatically send unselected full documents, other documents, folder lists, or image assets unless you select that content and explicitly start a cloud AI action.
Cloud AI API keys are stored in the system Keychain and are separated by provider or custom endpoint. API keys are not written to UserDefaults, logs, or iCloud synced storage. You can remove the saved API key for the current provider or custom endpoint in AI Settings.
GrayCat Markdown does not operate an AI proxy server. Cloud AI requests are sent directly from your device to the third-party AI provider configured by you. The developer does not receive, log, store, or view your AI input text, AI output, documents, or API key through this feature.
Third-party AI providers may process, log, retain, review, or use request content according to your account, API, and privacy terms with that provider. Please review the relevant provider policies before using cloud AI.
Before first cloud AI use, the app asks for permission to send selected text to the currently configured provider. Changing the provider or custom endpoint requires confirmation again. You may turn off cloud sending permission or delete saved API keys at any time in Settings.
Avoid sending personal, medical, financial, legal, confidential business, legally protected, customer, child-related, or otherwise high-risk text to third-party cloud AI providers. AI output may be inaccurate, and you should review AI output before publishing, saving, or relying on it.
